The skill
Database schema designer designs SQL and NoSQL schemas with normalization, indexing, constraints, relationship patterns and reversible migrations built in.
Only when you ask.
The habit
Schema changes pass the design checklist.
↻ Runs by itselfschema or migration change
When does it start? How does it check its work? What does it remember?
Stops after the changed tables and migrations of one pull request.
Identify the entities, relationships and whether the workload is read-heavy or write-heavy.
Check the change normalizes to 3NF, or justifies any denormalization for read-heavy access.
Confirm every table has a primary key and every foreign key has a constraint with an ON DELETE strategy.
Confirm DECIMAL for money, date types for dates and indexes on foreign keys and queried columns.
Confirm each migration has an UP and a DOWN step and adds NOT NULL columns safely.
Record each checklist miss with its table.
It writes only in its own folder and asks you before anything goes out.
Read both lists. If the left one sounds like you, the Database Schema Designer skill helps.
The skill lists FLOAT for money as an anti-pattern because of rounding errors; use DECIMAL.
For read-heavy reporting, expensive JOINs or analytics, with pre-calculated aggregates or materialized views.
