The skill

Cavecrew is a skill that tells an agent when to hand work to three compressed subagents: an investigator to find code, a builder for one or two file edits and a reviewer for diffs.

Only when you ask.

The habit

Small fixes with lean context.

↻ Runs by itselfsmall fix task

How the habit works.
You don't have to.

Three questionsWhen does it start? How does it check its work? What does it remember?

One run, step by step.
Then it stops.

Stop ruleStops after one task per run; a too-big answer ends the run and goes back to the main thread.

  1. 01

    Locate

cavecrew-investigator returns a path:line list, or two or three run in parallel for a broad search.

  2. 02

    Pick sites

The main thread picks one or two sites and skips the investigator if the site is already known.

  3. 03

    Edit

cavecrew-builder makes the edit and re-reads it, or answers too-big, needs-confirm, ambiguous or regressed.

  4. 04

    Review

cavecrew-reviewer checks the diff and returns findings with totals.

  5. 05

    Log

The result line goes into the run log, paraphrased if a person reads it.

What it may do.
Nothing more.

Safe by defaultIt writes only in its own folder and asks you before anything goes out.

Is it for you?
Use it when it fits.

Quick checkRead both lists. If the left one sounds like you, the Cavecrew skill helps.

Use it when

  • ✓ You need to find where code lives
  • ✓ You make a one or two file fix
  • ✓ Your main context fills up fast

Skip it when

  • – You build a big feature
  • – You want prose explanations

Questions

Cavecrew skill, answered.

When should I not use it?

For new features, refactors over three or more files, or when you want prose and architecture advice.

Why compress subagent output?

Subagent results land in the main context word for word. Shorter results let the main session last longer.

Do warnings stay terse?

No. Security warnings and confirmations of actions that cannot be undone switch to normal English.

How do I install the Cavecrew skill?

Copy the prompt at the top into your agent. It installs the skill from JuliusBrussee/caveman and sets up the habit. Or run npx skills add JuliusBrussee/caveman --skill cavecrew.

Is the Cavecrew skill free?

Yes. It is published under Apache-2.0. Habit is free too.
