The skill
Idea validator is a BuilderOS skill for founders that pressure-tests a product idea for fatal flaws, real pain, competition, first customers and a 2-week MVP test, then gives a strong, weak or pivot verdict.
Only when you ask.
The habit
A blunt verdict on every idea.
↻ Runs by itselfidea file changes
When does it start? How does it check its work? What does it remember?
Stops after one validation per run.
Read docs/product-idea.md, or ask for idea, customer and desired action.
State the one assumption that must be true.
List up to three fatal flaws by severity, each with a fast test.
Write problem reality, competition map, first 10 customers and the MVP test.
Fill the six-row scorecard and give a Strong, Weak or Pivot verdict.
Ask the founder the direction questions the findings raise.
Apply agreed edits, write the report and point to Product Planner or Idea Generator.
It writes only in its own folder and asks you before anything goes out.
Read both lists. If the left one sounds like you, the Idea Validator skill helps.
No. It names facts to verify instead of guessing.
No edits are applied; it recommends more discovery first.
Copy the prompt at the top into your agent. It installs the skill from buildgreatproducts/builder-os and sets up the habit. Or run npx skills add buildgreatproducts/builder-os --skill idea-validator.
